September 15: Today we traveled with Neil and Nigel from the Strathendrick Rotary Club to Stirling where were toured the castle. Equally as impressive as Edinburgh Castle we thought, and even a bit more accessible as far as being able to access little nooks and corridors. Stirling is significant because it's the midway point between Edinburgh and Glasgow and was the main castle of defense against armies attempting to invade from the south. A monument of William Wallace can be seen atop another hill not far from the castle, but we were running short of time and weren't able to see it up close. It was another day of rain, and a little bit chilly at times, but fortunately the buildings inside the castle courtyard were nice and warm for us to spend some time in.
After the castle, we traveled on to see the Falkirk Wheel, an amazing feat of engineering that transports boats through the canal system from two different levels at least 25 metres apart. We took a tour boat ourselves and were raised up to the high canal in 4 1/2 minutes. If you weren't looking outside, you would hardly be able to feel the movement at all. It was constructed as a millenium project and has provided great benefit to Scotland tourism through the renewed canal system.
After that, we returned back to our hosts for just enough time to get ready for our presentation with the Strathendrick Rotary Club in Killearn.
